The Times of London report that a source close to Jack Straw has said that the move to include Megrahi in a prisoner transfer agreement in 2007 was a government decision and was not made at the sole discretion of the Justice Secretary.
The Ministry of Justice indicated yesterday that the decision to include Megrahi in a prisoner transfer agreement had been made with the possibility of trade deals with Libya in mind.
Jack Straw denies there was a deal with the Government of Libya and that the Scottish Minister could veto any application.
On the other hand the agreement between UK and Libya, did not specify the veto.
Mind you Libya's application to exchange Megrahi, was posted a week before the agreement was signed, meaning that Colonel Gaddafi was aggressively seeking his release.
Unless we have missed out on a lot of news, nothing has changed regarding Gaddafi and his military ways and Megrahi shouldn't have been released.

Η εφημερίδα Times του Λονδίνου ανάφερε ότι μία πηγή κοντά στον Jack Straw, δήλωσε ότι η συμφωνία να συμπεριλάβουν τον Megrahi στην ανταλλαγή των φυλακισμένων έγινε με απόφαση της Βρετανικής κυβέρνησης.
Η ίδια πηγή είπε ότι η ανταλλαγή του Megrahi, έγινε με σκοπό να υπογραφεί εμπορική συμφωνία.
Ο Jack Straw, αρνήθηκε την συμφωνία και είπε ότι η κυβέρνηση της Σκωτίας είχε την δυνατότητα του βέτου όσον αφορά τον Megrahi.
Όμως η συμφωνία που υπεγράφη δεν αναφέρει οτιδήποτε για βέτο της Σκωτίας.
Η δε αίτηση του Gaddafi για την ανταλλαγή του Megrahi, είχε κατατεθεί μία εβδομάδα πριν υπογραφεί η συμφωνία.
