GeoEye - The Google Focused Satellite

The GeoEye Satellite (Image: GeoEye/ULA)

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency wanted to have access to commercial satellite imagery in order to support its national security mission.

The GeoEye-1 images will also be used by Google in its Google Earth and Google Maps.

Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page were at the launch of the satellite at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

You can watch the launch here.

You can also download GeoEye images from all over the world.
